The project establishes a centralised, standards-compliant system for the safe disposal of hazardous medical waste generated by Abakpa Health Centre and surrounding public and private health facilities within Enugu East LGA.
Rather than serving a single facility, the intervention strengthens healthcare waste management across a wider service delivery network, creating safer conditions for health workers, patients, and neighbouring communities.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the transition from project planning to implementation, signalling the commencement of infrastructure that will strengthen infection prevention and environmental health within the local healthcare system.
