Lu-Wash Project

Clean Water, Healthy Lives

About Project

When people help people, change happens.

Introduction

The Ilaje-Otumare WASH Project, funded by USAID, is a strategic initiative aimed at combating the cholera epidemic in Ilaje-Otumare, a densely populated and underserved slum community in the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. This project is designed to address critical water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) challenges in the area, which have been key contributors to the recurring cholera outbreaks.

The project takes a holistic approach, combining both infrastructural development and behavior change strategies to ensure sustainable impact.

Through these interventions, the project aims to reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases in Ilaje-Otumare, particularly cholera, while also improving the overall quality of life for residents. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term challenges, the Ilaje-Otumare WASH Project represents a model for sustainable WASH solutions in densely populated, low-resource urban areas.
