The project was implemented in communities in Anambra State and Enugu State, targeting rural populations whose livelihoods depend largely on natural resources. In Anambra State, the project responded to increasing environmental degradation, particularly soil erosion, which threatens farmlands and livelihoods. To address this, cash crop trees were introduced as a nature-based solution to stabilize the soil while providing long-term economic benefits to community members. In Enugu State, specifically in the community of Ihe, the intervention was informed by a 2019 incident involving the mass killing of vultures. The killings were linked to the use of vultures by herbalists for traditional practices and perceived medicinal purposes. This posed a serious threat to biodiversity and disrupted the ecological balance, as vultures play a critical role in waste disposal and disease control. In response, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation led a conservation-focused intervention that combined community engagement, biodiversity protection, and livelihood support. The project targeted community members, including local volunteers, to promote sustainable practices and protect vulture habitats.
