The Improved Learning Outcome Project (ILOP) was implemented by the South Saharan Social Development Organization (SSDO), with funding from the TY Danjuma Foundation and in collaboration with the Enugu State Ministry of Education through the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB). The project was developed in response to challenges affecting the quality of teaching and learning in public primary schools, particularly the limited use of participatory teaching methods.
The project focused on improving learning outcomes by strengthening teachers’ capacity to apply modern and participatory teaching strategies and enhancing community participation in school management. ILOP was implemented in 30 hard-to-reach communities across six selected Local Government Areas in Enugu State. Through the intervention, 90 public primary school teachers were trained on modern teaching methods, while 180 School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) members received training on effective school management practices. These interventions were designed to promote better teaching practices, stronger school-community engagement, and improved learning outcomes for pupils.
