Project Background

The project is designed to support government efforts to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, coronavirus, and other WASH-related diseases in Enugu State, while consolidating the gains and achievements of previous interventions. Poor hygiene practices, limited access to sustainable handwashing facilities, inadequate public awareness, and low vaccine uptake continue to expose many communities, especially vulnerable populations, to preventable diseases. Public spaces such as markets, schools, health facilities, motor parks, and community centres often lack adequate hygiene facilities and consistent hygiene promotion activities, increasing the risk of disease transmission. The project targets community members, women, children, youths, traders, public institution users, and other vulnerable groups across selected communities in Enugu State. Through a people-centred and inclusive approach, the project seeks to improve personal and environmental hygiene practices and strengthen public health resilience.
