Project Background

Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV remain major public health challenges in Nigeria, particularly among vulnerable and underserved communities. Significant gaps persist in community TB case identification, HIV testing among pregnant women, and patient-centred care for people living with Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB). The GF-GC7 Community TB/HIV Project is a Global Fund-supported initiative implemented from January 2024 to December 2026 through the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN), with South Saharan Social Development Organisation (SSDO) serving as the Lead Community-Based Organisation. The project strengthens community-level TB and HIV services by identifying TB cases, linking patients to treatment, supporting pregnant women to access antenatal care and HIV testing, and improving diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for DR-TB patients.

Project Objective

Focuses on providing prompt access to high-quality, patient-centered diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB), aiming to improve treatment outcomes and reduce DR-TB transmission in Nigeria.

Stakeholder Advocacy Visits

Engaged with state and community stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, secure support for TB/HIV interventions, and promote collaborative project implementation. These visits boosted awareness and program backing.

DR-TB Patient Management

Offered financial and social support for MDR-TB patients, including transport aid to support adherence and facilitate attendance at OPD clinics

Active TB/HIV Case Finding:

Conducted community outreach and screenings for early TB/HIV case identification, collaborating with local partners to boost case detection and ensure timely treatment. Commemoration of global TB days.

Onboarding Training for CBOs on Comm TB App and Mwater

Provided training to health workers and community volunteers on the Comm TB app and Mwater, enabling efficient data collection, monitoring, and reporting for informed decision-making.
