GOAL

To reduce violence against women in Nigeria

WHY THIS GOAL?

In Nigeria, an estimated 1 in every 4 women will experience violence in their life time. This situation is worsened by the tacit approval of wife beating by many of the cultures and the blaming of girls for their rape. Women cannot exercise their full citizenship if they are constantly under the threat of violence.

OBJECTIVE

Women empowered to address and reduce violence against women at the
community level

ACTIVITIES UNDER THIS GOAL

  • Advocacy and innovative programmes addressing violence against women
  • Advocacy for the setting up of shelters in rural communities for women facing violence
  • Immediate support to women facing violence through the provision of shelter, counselling, mediation and prosecution services
  • Support for women who ultimately need to prosecute their cases of violence
