Tracking constituency funds in 3 LGAs in jigawa state Nigeria

Introduction

The overall objective of the project was to track budget expenditure and make the government accountable to the people by ensuring that funds allocated for projects are used only for those projects

 

 

Project objectives

The specific objective was to track the
constituency funds allocated to National Assembly members representing
Malam Madori, Taura,Gumel LGAs for special projects in their constituencies. Its additional aim was to curb corruption by ensuring that the constituency funds are used for what they are allocated for.

Main Activities include:

  • Advocacy meetings with civil society organizations and the target community based organizations to share the finding of the research and develop an action plan to track future constituency budgets and ensure their proper implementation.
  • Research at the National Assembly to determine the amount, scope and administration of the constituency funds available to the target Jigawa representatives.
  • National Assembly Members provided with guidelines on proper project implementation.
  • National Assembly Members provided with guidelines on proper project implementation.

Main Activities include:

  • To make Civil society aware of Constituency funds and what they are to be used for.
  • Measures put in place to curb corruption in the administration of constituency funds. 

The project was funded by the European Union Support to Reforming Institutions Programme (EU SRIP) Nigeria.
