The Awakening, is a youth focused civic enlightenment program aimed at enlightening young people in the South East on good governance, democratic principles, civic participation and active citizenship in order to awaken them to their civic responsibility and provoke them into demanding full representation, involvement and active participation in decision making and governance.
The live radio broadcast aims at informing, motivating and empowering youth to become active citizens. Youth can change the world by becoming actively, meaningfully and substantially involved through political parties and beyond. We aim to improve the participation of young people in democratic decision making processes.

What then can “We, the People” do about this situation? Is it possible for us, the civil societies to which we belong in a democratic setting to call attention to the need for a more participatory and inclusive governance system especially at the local level where this is most possible, practicable and essential?
Education is investment in human capital and political education empowers the future of the society and the world at large. Quite often people keep on asking what education can do for them. It is out of sheer ignorance that such a question could emanate. For the society, it drives economic competitiveness; has synergistic, poverty -reducing effects; contribute to democratization; provides peace and stability.
For many young people, discussions about budget and national spending is like playing reggae in the midst of blues. While many a youth will prefer a discussion on football, movies or some fun activity, only a handful will be interested in understanding the role of young people in budgeting or how they can get involved in the budget process.
OVERALL PROJECT OBJECTIVE:
To deepen democracy and create an open society in Nigeria through mass media education and participation
"The worst illiterate is the political illiterate; he hears nothing, sees nothing, and takes no part in political life. He doesn't seem to know that the cost of living, the price of beans, of flour, of rent, of medicines, all depends on political decisions.
He prides himself on his political ignorance, sticks out his chest and says he hates politics. He doesn't know, the imbecile, that from his political non-participation comes the prostitute, the abandoned child, the robber and, worst of all, corrupt official, the lackeys of exploitative multinational corporations".
