Peace Talk: South East and Northern Youth Assembly

As a youth focused organisation, we organised a town hall meeting between the national Speaker of the largest northern youth group of over 6.8 million youths of the 19 northern states, Alh. Ukkasha Hamza Razak and the youths of Enugu State. The meeting which was held in the company of the national Clerk, Danjuma Abdulrazak was aimed at helping to change the narrative and paint the true picture.

This effort was supported by Radio Nigeria, the Enugu State police command and the generous linkages of the Christian Aid Voice to the people (V2P) project through it’s program manager Mr Igboke Onyebuchi, the media and other well meaning individuals such as Hon. Bonny Ede and Dr. McGinger Ibeneme. The decision to host this meeting was informed by an unscheduled visit of one of our youth group rep, Mr Onyedikachi Agbo to the inauguration of the national speaker of the northern youth Assembly.

At the end of the intense dialogue, it was clear to all that the real issue fueling the tension is bad governance thriving on the emotion and ignorance of the citizens and setting youths up against each other instead of against the government of the day who they ought to be holding accountable. A symbolic hand shake and hug was used to agree that we are one and we shall so remain by fighting our real problems instead of ourselves.

A communique reflecting the agreement of the youths was signed in conclusion of the event.

The town hall meeting was anchored by the zonal Director of Radio Nigeria. The day ended with a grand hosting of the August visitors by Ohaneze Ndi Igbo of Enugu State.
