The newly trained Sister Guardians now have an eagle eye out for women facing issues of domestic abuse and are passionately driven to help eradicate Violence Against Women in their communities. The sister guardians identified a woman in Eke in Udi LGA OF Enugu state, Nigeria who had packed up to return to her family because she was being physically abused by her husband. ” I feel unappreciated” she cried as she struggled with her luggage down the road.
These Sisters intervened by immediate mediation after which husband and wife were thrilled to be back in each other’s arms. They were further cautioned on their faults and counseled on the negative effects of domestic violence especially against women, the effect on the children and were placed on monitoring basis. They went further to enlighten the couple on the benefits of effective communication in relationships.
There are many ways to express ourselves. Neither anger nor violence is an option. We always want women to speak up against violence. Silence has never saved anyone.
